RPA and Flood Action Week

Flood Action Week runs from 14 to 20 October. It is about being prepared and knowing how to protect yourself, your families and your farm. Please make sure you know where to find the information and help you need.

It’s essential to check your flood risk and sign up for flood warnings. The Environment Agency is stepping up its preparations to increase the nation’s resilience to flooding as we head into the winter. Taking small steps today can immediately improve your own readiness. 

You can find a lot of useful information online. We have worked with the Environment Agency and NFU to collate information to help you be prepared if flooding happens. The recommendations below will help to protect yourself, your family and your farm and make short or longer-term changes to your land management agreements.

The Environment Agency recommends you:

  • Check your long-term flood risk you can use this free service to find out the long-term flood risk for an area in England, the possible causes of flooding, and how to manage flood risk
  • Sign up for flood warnings by phone, text or email
  • Take steps to protect yourself from future flooding including storing important documents in a secure, waterproof location, taking rugs and small furniture upstairs, checking how to turn off your electricity and water and preparing a flood kit
